State Police in Washington County were first contacted about the alleged incident in September 2022.

Troopers were told that on Tuesday, Sept. 13, an employee assaulted another worker at the White Creek Highway Department, located on County Route 68.

Investigators concluded that 44-year-old John Nolan, of Cambridge, intentionally exposed another employee to a hazardous chemical in a confined space, according to State Police.

The affected employee suffered respiratory issues and had to seek medical treatment, police said.

Troopers did not say what chemical, specifically, was involved.

Nolan surrendered to police on Sunday, Oct. 9 on a charge of third-degree assault.

He was expected to be arraigned Thursday, Oct. 20 at the White Creek Town Court.
